Safety Rules for the Textile Industry
1. Type of Doors for Factory Rooms: Each factory room must have a door that is easily accessible and can be opened quickly in case of emergency. The path to the door should not be blocked or obstructed to ensure easy evacuation. If there are doors between two rooms, they should open towards the nearest exit path and should not be locked during working hours. [Section 62(3)]
2. Frequency of Fire Extinguishing System Maintenance: For 50 or more workers, the fire extinguishing system should be tested once every 6 months. [Section 62(8), Amendment Section 23(gh), Rule 55(14)]
3. Minimum Number of Exits: There should be at least two exits for every 20 or more workers. [Rule 54(1)]
4. Proximity of Fire Extinguishing System: Fire extinguishing systems should be within 50 meters (164 feet) of any location in the working area. [Rule 54(2)]
5. Placement of Fire Extinguishing Equipment: Fire extinguishing equipment should be placed within 50 meters (164 feet) from any point in the working area. [Rule 5492]
6. Location of Handrails on Staircase Railing: Handrails on staircase railings should be placed at a height of 1.15 meters (3.77 feet). [Rule 54(5)]
7. Prohibited Angle for Sloping Ramp: Sloping ramps should not exceed an angle of 45 degrees. [Rule 54(6)]
8. Maximum Distance of Fire Extinguishing Systems from Magnesium, Aluminum, or Zinc: For extinguishing fires involving these materials, dry chemical powder (Type D) should be used. [Rule 55(5)]
9. Proximity of Evacuation Plans: Evacuation plans should be placed in easily visible locations. [Rule 55(8)]
10. Firefighting Training for Employees: 18% of employees should be trained in fire fighting, rescue, and first aid, with 6% in each committee. [Rule 55(10)]
11. Number of Fire Officers: For at least 500 workers, one trained fire officer should be present. [Rule 55(12)]
12. Frequency of Refresher Training for Teams: Teams should receive refresher training every 6 months. [Rule 55(12)]
13. Notice to Relevant Authorities Before Fire Drill: Relevant authorities and fire stations should be informed 15 days in advance before conducting a fire drill. [Rule 55(14)]
14. Water Storage for Fire Extinguishing System: A minimum of 5000 liters of water storage is required for fire extinguishing purposes. [Rule 55(15)]
15. Frequency of Inspection of Hoists/Elevators: Hoists and elevators should be inspected at least once every 6 months. [Section 69(g)]
16. Minimum Weight Limit for Carrying: An adult male can carry up to 50 kg on a flat surface. [Section 63(1),(2)]
17. Minimum Weight Limit for Lifting: An adult female can lift up to 30 kg on a flat surface. [Section 63(1),(2)]
18. Weight Limit for Carrying Upstairs (Male): An adult male can carry up to 40 kg upstairs. [Section 63(1),(2)]
19. Weight Limit for Carrying Upstairs (Female): An adult female can carry up to 25 kg upstairs. [Section 63(1),(2)]
20. Maximum Permissible Sound Level: Sound levels should not exceed 80 decibels (dB) in hazardous areas. [Section 68(1)(r)]
21. Health Examination for Workers in Hazardous Areas: Workers in hazardous areas should undergo a health examination once a year. [Section 68(5)]
